About Aa Lettering

Originally from the island of Hawaiʻi, I started lettering during my summer breaks while attending the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, inspired by the mesmerizing calligraphy videos I'd seen on Instagram. Under the username @idklettering (named as such because I didn't know what to call my account...), I began posting pictures of my lettering. My first Instagram post (shown below) was a silly programming joke lettered with a simple metallic gel pen.

As time went on, I experimented with different tools and mediums, and in early 2021, I was gifted an iPad and Apple Pencil, allowing me to move into the digital space! This reignited my passion for lettering and I rebranded under the Instagram username @a.a.lettering. I was also gifted a Cricut machine in 2021 and believe me when I say I started putting my lettering on everything. I did small projects for friends and family here and there, but didn't venture beyond that.

Fast forward to 2025 and I decided to give my lettering business a real chance. I signed up for my first craft fair and had a blast! I learned so much and it added more fuel to my fire, reinforcing my desire to create beautiful things that people love (including me!).

You'll notice a lot of my work features sayings in ʻOlelo Hawaiʻi (the Hawaiian language). As someone who was born and raised in Hawaiʻi, the language and culture of its people are very special to me. I believe the best way to perpetuate a language is to use it, so I will continue to use my craft to share ʻOlelo Hawaiʻi with the world.

Thank you for joining me on this journey!
